When Black women show up, the entire energy shifts. That was the vibe Day One Coachella 2025 attendees caught on April 11. Kicking off spring festival season, the Indio desert pulsed with the sound, style, and spirit of unapologetic Black womanhood.

The iconic Missy Elliott, Memphis rap queen GloRilla, South African global riser Tyla, and Chicago’s beloved Ravyn Lenae performed on various stages throughout the first night. Delivering fly sets and performances, each showed how Black women are the blueprint, setting the tone in music and fashion.

And to think, this is just the beginning. With Megan Thee Stallion, Tink, Muni Long, Amaarae, and more to come, the Black girl takeover is just getting started.

Let’s get into Day One performances.

GloRilla’s set was pure Memphis fire. The breakout star brought her raw, fun, and no-nonsense energy to the desert stage—and her opening made it clear she didn’t come to blend in. She stepped out wearing a Joker-style cartoon mask, only to dramatically pull it off and reveal her face beat, fresh bob, and full-on bombshell realness.

Tyla finally had her Coachella moment—and sis made it count. After reportedly canceling last year due to injury, the South African star hit the stage and delivered what we’ve been waiting for.

Before leaving the stage, she made her mark. The star took a spray can and wrote “TYLA” in green letters on a larger-than-life tiger prompt. The songstress is living in the moment and doing it her way. Yes, Sis!
